My love for Beautycounter has only grown since I was first introduced to them by a dear friend years ago. When I read their mission statement and their clean promise it stopped me in my tracks:
ONE BY ONE, WE ARE LEADING A MOVEMENT TO A FUTURE WHERE ALL BEAUTY IS CLEAN BEAUTY. WE ARE POWERED BY PEOPLE, AND OUR COLLECTIVE MISSION IS TO GET SAFER PRODUCTS INTO THE HANDS OF EVERYONE. FORMULATE, ADVOCATE, & EDUCATE—THAT’S OUR MOTTO FOR CREATING PRODUCTS THAT TRULY PERFORM WHILE HOLDING OURSELVES TO UNPARALLELED STANDARDS OF SAFETY. WHY? IT’S REALLY THIS SIMPLE: BEAUTY SHOULD BE GOOD FOR YOU.
OUR CLEAN PROMISE
SINCE OUR FIRST PRODUCT LAUNCHED IN 2013, WE’VE CREATED OUR OWN HIGH STANDARDS IN PURSUIT OF CLEAN BEAUTY. OVER 1,500 QUESTIONABLE INGREDIENTS ARE NEVER USED IN OUR FORMULATIONS—WE CALL THIS THE NEVER LIST™ —AND OUR INGREDIENT SELECTION PROCESS IS UNPARALLELED.
Beautycounter believes that beauty should be good for the planet, too:
WE WORK TO MINIMIZE THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF OUR PRODUCTS, PACKAGING, AND FOOTPRINT THROUGH OUR SUSTAINABLE INGREDIENT SOURCING AND OUR RECYCLABLE PRODUCT PACKAGING. WANT TO LEARN MORE?
Sadly, the stringent policies that Beautycounter adheres to, to ensure their products are clean and they’re doing the best to reduce waste aren’t the industry standard. Which had me questioning – if they’re doing so much, how are these other brands doing so little?
Beyond their inspiring policies and high standards I began to wonder: WHY did my healthy mother who has eaten so clean and worked out regularly almost her whole life get diagnosed with breast cancer when she has no genetic BRCA strand, and no other men or women on her side of the family have ever been struck with the devastation of breast cancer?
Well she has been feeding the inside of her body with pure and clean nutrition, but what about her biggest organ- SKIN? For years and years (I’m including myself in this until Beautycounter enlightened me) my mother slathered her body with all sorts of chemically ladened beauty products and lotions. It really forces you to evaluate what you are putting on, massaging, and penetrating into the pores of the largest organ of your body. Now as a mother of 3, I am even more invested in what my teenagers put on their bodies! I am especially concerned about my daughter with her love for all the big box store beauty product shelves lined with the prettiest bottles and most fruity smelling chemically loaded goodies.
I never want to have to go through the pain of a double mastectomy followed by the grueling chemotherapy that my precious mother endured and more importantly I never want to see my own daughter go through it. I have peace of mind seeing the ones I love lathering up in the clean products found at Beautycounter. The great care that they take to curate and create beauty products that are both clean and results driven inspires me to be more involved in their mission. I want to share them with the people I love most because I simply cannot justify anything less. I encourage you to join our family in knowing and experiencing “Beauty should be good for you!”
