  • HIGH HAMPTON, NORTH CAROLINA

A rustic wonderland nestled in the North Carolina mountains is the woodsy oasis you've been looking for. High Hampton is a historic landmark property that's been given new life by the owners of one of our most beloved destinations, Blackberry Farm. Preserving the historic elements while implementing modern touches is a balance that has been beautifully achieved in every room of this legendary property. From the original wood-paneled walls to the colorful tapestries and linens, our room was the perfect balance of masculine and feminine, old and new, rustic and soft. It's the kind of place you dream of when you want to disconnect from life's busyness and rediscover nature through childlike eyes. The Inn served as a cozy respite for us between adventures and activities. The textural layers of our room--the original woodwork, the soft linens, and brass bedside lamps-- created an inviting space primed for curling up under the covers and diving into a book. Something unexpected that we loved was the absence of televisions in the rooms, which helped encourage us to unplug from technology and become one with the Blue Ridge Mountains. While our room felt quaint, it featured an incredibly spacious bathroom and walk-in closet--something Chris and I always appreciate. A booking tip to note: if you plan to visit High Hampton with your family, we recommend reserving the Halston Cottage Suite--each of the four rooms are connected to a charming living room where you can reconvene at the end of the day, while all four have their own private entrances to the outdoors. Upon arriving at High Hampton, Robert greeted us and took us on a tour of the property, educating us on the vast history of the resort dating back to 1922. Understanding the history of such a special place (including some friendly ghost stories!) made for a magical stay. Chris and I began each day with a workout in the fitness center, which has everything from Peloton bikes to TRX and Pilates studios. Any time of day at High Hampton is best spent outdoors surrounded by the Carolina High Country, so we partook in a game of croquet in the afternoon, followed by a refreshing drink afterward called "The Lakeside Ricky." As always, Chris can't visit any location without hitting the green, so we took a tour of the Tom Fazio 18-hole golf course to set up his tee time! The seemingly endless options of outdoor activities offered plenty of opportunities to take in the beautiful lake framed by the picturesque North Carolina mountains. Lilah and I enjoyed a mother-daughter sunset hike after touring the stunning Dahlia gardens, Chris and Lilah paddled out on a canoe to fish for crappie, bass, and trout, and we all three shared plenty of laughs while kayaking through the lake. Whether you're interested in a family-friendly hike, or a more rigorous experience for seasoned hikers, there are numerous options throughout High Hampton's grounds. And if you're looking to hit the courts, they offer five tennis courts (where we scheduled lessons for Lilah), four pickleball courts, and a basketball court (ideal for our boys!). After a long day on the water, I snuck away to The Spa for their signature deep massage, which incorporates local healing herbs and scents gathered from the ground's garden--highly recommend! Ping pong and corn hole are available on the lawn, as well as card games in the lobby including Old Maid, UNO, and checkers--a nostalgic touch reminiscent of my childhood. Not only does the resort offer a wide variety of outdoor activities, but they also made sure to include plenty for the young guests! From games to hikes, the Kids Club offers fun adventures daily for guests ages 5-12, and you can even catch the property's miniature donkeys--Ed and Fred--outside on your way in! At High Hampton, they pay as much attention to the fare as they do the grounds. We enjoyed breakfast together at The Dining Room, comfortable space with spectacular views and a mood-setting, wood-burning fireplace. I enjoyed the garden greens with a sunny-side-up egg, Chris chose the egg white vegetable frittata, and Lilah loved their blueberry and lemon zest ricotta pancakes--a delicious start to our days! Mitch's Lakeside is the perfect spot to grab drinks for the pool or a casual lunch. We popped in and ordered the blackberry mule before heading to The Tavern for lunch. At The Tavern, I enjoyed their beets and watercress salad with salmon, Chris chose the caesar salad with salmon, and Lilah dined on their tavern burger and gave a glowing review! Before dinner, Chris and I snuck away for a wine tasting (we recommend the Generations of Wine tasting) before reconvening with Lilah for a three-course dinner back at The Dining Room. Chris enjoyed the fresh North Carolina trout, I chose the fresh garden lettuce salad, followed by the roasted chicken, and Lilah dined on the leek and potato soup, followed by the sweet tea fried chicken. To finish off a spectacular meal, I savored the peaches and cream cake while Lilah relished her favorite item on the menu: fresh blueberry sorbet. Chris and I recommend High Hampton for our outdoor-loving, adventure-seeking clients and can happily say it's now on our family's list of "must go back" destinations. The charm and history of High Hampton are enough to make you fall in love, and if you fall hard, there are residences available to make it your full-time home. Trust us--you'll be tempted.

  • CRETE, GREECE

Can't decide between pristine beaches or majestic mountainscapes? Then the island of Crete, Greece is the ideal destination! You may know Crete as the largest island in Greece, but what you may not know is that Crete offers a plethora of instagram-worthy landscapes, from the pink sand beaches of Elafonisi to the hiking trails of Samaria Gorge and the ancient ruins of Spinalonga—you’ll have no shortage of sights to see and friendly locals willing to guide you there. Blue Palace, A Luxury Collection Resort – Crete Escape to the wild beauty and unrivaled island style of a bohemian luxe hotel on a private beach, with incomparable views and crystal waters. Blue Palace, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Crete has 251 guest rooms, suites, and private villas (142 with private pools). Enjoy private boat cruises around the Gulf of Elounda, a barbecue lunch on an isolated beach after snorkeling in turquoise waters, or simply gazing at the island of Spinalonga while sitting around an open-air fire at the Isola Beach Club. • AMALFI COAST

When you dream of the most photographic views and colorful villages of Italy, you dream of the Amalfi Coast. This gorgeous destination is abundant with spectacular look- out points, quaint towns with charming architecture, and steep, rocky hillsides. There's no denying that tourists flood this picturesque locale every summer, so Chris and I recommend visiting toward the end of September and October. Once you arrive, the pro move is to travel via boat rather than car—you’ll avoid the dangerous, windy roads and traffic jams, while enjoying views one can only fully appreciate from the water. Belmond Hotel Caruso It’s easy to see why Ravello, and the entire Amalfi Coast, has inspired the likes of Richard Wagner, D.H. Lawrence, and Gore Vidal. Belmond Hotel Caruso has long been a favorite of discriminating globetrotters. Just 50 guest rooms and suites make for an intimate ambience, and most of the rooms have a sea view, terrace, or private garden. Outside, the infinity-edge swimming pool sits dramatically suspended between sea and sky. Join the head gardener for a private tour of the terraced gardens and enjoy the complimentary boat cruise along the Amalfi Coast, then reserve a romantic candlelit dinner at the open-air Belvedere Restaurant. WIT Tip: Have lunch at the poolside restaurant – the views are incredible, and the gourmet buffet bar had the most delicious fresh tomatoes and mozzarella I have ever tasted. Hotel Santa Caterina A secret among celebrities and discerning travelers, Hotel Santa Caterina is a superb seaside hideaway set amid an expansive estate inhabited by vibrant bougainvillea and fragrant lemon and orange groves. You’ll do well to choose one of the lavish suites, each with a sea-view bathroom and thoughtfully chosen antiques – the enchanting “Romeo and Juliet” suite is a two-story chalet set on a cliff above the sea. Outside, two elevators are available to whisk you to the swimming pool, bathing platform, and spa. Don’t miss the fine-dining Glicine Restaurant for a romantic venue. WIT Tip: Combine Santa Caterina in Amalfi with the Tiberio in Capri by taking a private boat between the two and making a day of it. Le Sirenuse You'll have to pinch yourself to believe you're basking in the beauty that is Le Sirenuse. As John Steinbeck once put it, “It is a dream place that isn't quite real when you're there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.” Many travelers have fallen in love with this family-run villa’s romantic arches, vaulted ceilings, and handmade floor tiles. Spend afternoons on the sunny terrace taking in views of Positano, Capri, and Li Galli. Enjoy an evening cocktail at Aldo’s Champagne Bar, followed by dinner in the sea-view restaurant, La Sponda. An Aveda beauty center and spa facilities provide tempting diversion. WIT Tip: The hotel offers a range of activities and excursions, including trips on the owner’s beautiful boat, guided walks, and wine and olive oil tastings – most at no extra charge. Casa Angelina With its laid-back contemporary luxury and sleek stylings – highlighted by a clean white- on-white palette and stellar private art collection – Casa Angelina displays all the right cues. Its 44 rooms boast spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast, from Positano to Capri. For the most iconic stay, book the Eaudesea Experience rooms, set in old fishermen’s houses that were forged from the rock, situated down on the small La Gavitella Beach and accessible via an elevator plus about 200 stairs. There are two pools and a wellness center offering Pilates and yoga; the top-floor Un Piano Nel Cielo restaurant serves sky-high Campanian cuisine. WIT Tip: Book a sunset tour on our Boat and cruise along the Amalfi Coast – the ultimate romantic hideaway. Stop in at one of the inlets or caves for a dip and then enjoy an onboard dinner curated by the chef. Palazzo Avino Palazzo Avino, formerly known as Palazzo Sasso, is a stunning, deluxe five-star hotel on Italy’s famous Amalfi Coast. A 12th-century villa originally built for an esteemed Italian noble family, the property has been tastefully refurbished to the highest standards while retaining its medieval and baroque features. Accommodations are sumptuous and comprise 32 guest rooms and 11 suites. There is an outdoor swimming pool and a magnificent rooftop sun terrace with hydromassage plunge pool. The hotel boasts a private beach club exclusively for hotel guests, offering full sea access, a casual restaurant, and a small swimming pool. WIT Tip: From May to October, take the complimentary shuttle to the Clubhouse by the Sea beach club and dine at its casual restaurant. The best way to take in all the Amalfi Coast has to offer is by foot, so be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes. For to-die-for cuisine, you must try Soul & Fish in Sorrento and La Strada in Praiano--neither will disappoint! And lastly, for the most memorable experience, we recommend sailing along the coastline at sunset. WIT has very close relationships with these properties, so we can extend exclusive perks and special amenities to our clients. Typically, you will receive complimentary breakfast for two daily, $100 or more resort credit to be utilized during your stay, room upgrade, either at the time of booking or arrival, and early check-in/late checkout, both subject to availability. • 4TH OF JULY RECIPES

Watermelon, Cucumber & Feta Salad Here's a healthy salad recipe to make at the height of summer when watermelon and cucumbers are at their juiciest and most flavorful. Feta adds the perfect creamy, salty, tangy edge, and mint makes this salad taste even brighter. This is one easy side salad you'll want to serve at all your summer BBQs. Ingredients ½ cup red-wine vinegar 2 teaspoons honey ¼ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon ground pepper ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil 5 cups cubed seedless watermelon 1 English cucumber, chopped 6 ounces feta cheese, cut into 3/4-inch cubes ½ cup thinly sliced red onion 2 tablespoons chopped fresh mint Directions Whisk vinegar, honey, salt, and pepper in a small bowl; gradually whisk in oil until completely incorporated. Just before serving, gently stir in mint; drizzle with the remaining vinaigrette. Tips To make ahead: Prepare through Step 2 and refrigerate for up to 2 hours. Macaroni Salad with Creamy Avocado Dressing Give classic pasta salad a fresher, more flavorful spin. This fast pasta dish calls for avocado to replace some of the mayonnaise, which makes it extra creamy. Whole-wheat elbow macaroni and fresh vegetables lighten up this healthy pasta salad that you'll be making all summer long. Ingredients 8 ounces whole-wheat elbow macaroni (about 2 cups) 1 cup chopped red bell pepper ½ cup thinly sliced celery 2 scallions, chopped 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley or cilantro 1 ripe medium avocado ¼ cup mayonnaise 2 tablespoons rice vinegar ¾ teaspoon salt ½ teaspoon dried minced garlic ¼ teaspoon ground pepper Directions Cook macaroni in a large pot of boiling water according to package directions. Halve the avocado, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a mini food processor. Add mayonnaise, vinegar, salt, dried garlic, and pepper. Process until smooth. Add the avocado dressing to the large bowl with the macaroni salad and stir until well coated. Tips To make ahead: Refrigerate for up to 1 day. Spread 1/4 cup yogurt mixture over each slice of watermelon. Cut each slice into 8 wedges. Top with strawberries, blackberries, and mint. Berry Sangria In this red, white, and blue sangria recipe, we've skipped the added sugar and used a slightly sparkling white wine, sweet dessert wine, and tons of fresh fruit to create a delicious, yet healthy cocktail. Ingredients 1 750-mL bottle Vinho Verde 1 cup Sauternes or ice wine 1 cup blueberries 1 cup sliced strawberries 1 star fruit, sliced 1 cup chilled plain seltzer Ice Directions Combine wine, Sauternes, blueberries, strawberries, and star fruit in a large pitcher. Thank you, eatingwell.com for your inspiration!

  • BARCELONA

Barcelona—a place where you strive to get lost in the city streets (and we particularly recommend near the Gothic quarter). The beauty of Barcelona lies in your surroundings: the colorful and inspiring architecture of Antoni Gaudi found all throughout the city, the scent of fresh baked “pan tumaca” drifting from restaurant windows, and the sound of locals chatting at La Boqueria—Barcelona’s oldest market dating back to 1217 —while picking up their Saturday produce. In other words, be prepared to spend your days on your feet roaming the city streets, but with your eyes to the sky as you take in the beauty of Barcelona’s iconic skyline and robust history. Hotel Arts Barcelona A dazzling display of contemporary architecture, Hotel Arts Barcelona (operated by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company) is renowned the world over for its impeccable service and lavish accommodations, including 28 duplex penthouses. The penthouses are located on the top floors of the hotel and offer butler service and use of a MINI Cooper. The hotel has an exclusive spa, 43 The Spa, located on the 43rd floor. Visit the terraced gardens, infinity-edge pool, family pool, the stunning collection of Spanish art, or the five restaurants – including the acclaimed two-Michelin-starred Enoteca Paco Pérez, with a wine cellar topping 700 labels. WIT Tip: Hotel Arts Barcelona’s amazing oceanfront location is just minutes away from the Gothic district. Book a room with stunning views of the marina and beaches. Majestic Hotel & Spa An icon in the heart of modernist Barcelona, Majestic Hotel & Spa is an exclusive 272- room hotel that sits across from Gaudí's famed buildings at Paseo de Gracia. Reserve the Majestic Royal Penthouse to experience catch-your-breath views over Sagrada Familia cathedral. Michelin-starred chef Nandu Jubany oversees the sophisticated buffet breakfast and hotel gastronomy. Try the farm-to-table SOLC restaurant and enjoy after-dinner drinks at La Dolce Vitae rooftop terrace. Save time for personalized treatments at Majestic Spa. WIT Tip: Don’t miss sunset cocktails and tapas on the tenth floor at La Dolce Vitae outdoor terrace lounge – the city view, which includes La Sagrada Familia, is fantastic. Mandarin Oriental Barcelona Ideally located near all the city’s major attractions, Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona offers an atmospheric setting on Passeig de Gràcia. With contemporary interiors by designer Patricia Urquiola, the 120 rooms and suites (some with private terraces) are among the most luxurious in Barcelona. Carme Ruscalleda (one of the most awarded chefs in the world) is the leader of the two-Michelin-starred Moments Restaurant, casual Blanc, and Banker’s Bar. Terrat rooftop bar serves chef Gastón Acurio’s Peruvian delights. The spa is designed as a haven of serenity, making Mandarin Oriental the perfect base to explore the Catalan capital. WIT Tip: Reserve a suite, where your butler will look after your every need, and don't miss the rooftop restaurant, with the best view of Barcelona. The Serras Hotel Stories of Pablo Picasso swirl around the rooftop pool bar at The Serras. The master’s former studio turned boutique stay – located in the historic city center, Barrio Gótico – is now a canvas of contemporary luxury, its ambience trendy yet unpretentious. The 28 rooms are comfortably chic, their natural color palette accented by bold geometric patterns with touches of wood and iron; balconies overlook the old city or yacht-filled Port Vell and the Mediterranean Sea. Look for Michelin-starred chef Marc Gascons behind the open kitchen at Informal restaurant, busily adding his own twist to seasonal Catalan favorites. WIT Tip: The most breathtaking view in Barcelona is from this rooftop, which is open year-round and transforms throughout the day from a quiet poolside lounge to a chic cocktail bar. Barcelona is one of the most visited cities in Europe, which makes avoiding crowds challenging, but not impossible! Chris and I recommend visiting during the months of September to November to avoid the bigger crowds while still enjoying the warm, sunny temps. Also, prepare to live on “Barcelona time,” where lunch begins around 2pm and restaurants don’t open for dinner before 8 or 9pm. In other words, enjoy the slower pace as you absorb everything Barcelona has to offer!
