La Cantera Resort & Spa

First stop, La Cantera Resort & Spa situated atop the highest point in San Antonio, where you have the perfect vantage over the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The 496 key property is comprised of sophisticated rooms, suites and private villas. If only the grown-ups are traveling, we love that La Cantera offers “Seven”, the resort’s adults-only floor with extra perks such as private access, dedicated concierge and exclusive lounge with daily breakfast and happy hour. For group trips, know that La Cantera is set over 550 acres with two 18 Hole Championship Golf Courses available for play:  The Resort Course at La Cantera, a PGA Tour stop for 15 years, and The Palmer Course at La Cantera, designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer. This 6,926 yard par 71 masterpiece offers the ultimate test of ability for even the most skilled player. Afterwards cool off in one of the four beautiful pools with luxe cabanas or bring your racket and play on one of the championship level tennis courts. For all the runners, whether you're training for a marathon or simply want to get your heart rate up, choose from a three- or five-mile run through the resort. Whatever your activity, check into the world-class spa Loma de Vida Spa and Wellness for post workout pampering. The most recent addition to the nine on property restaurants is Signature, “a culinary love letter to my hometown” quoted by four-time James Beard honoree Chef Andrew Weissman.

The Driskill

front of historic building

Heading back to Austin, we arrive in the heart of downtown at The Driskill. Built in 1886, the newly renovated hotel remains a historic landmark.  The old-world opulence is evident as soon as you arrive to the lobby with marble floors, a stunning stained-glass dome, corridors filled with museum-quality artwork and grand mezzanine, for a glimpse into the hotel’s storied past. The 189 newly revitalized guestrooms and suites are classic and comfortable. Meet, mix and mingle in the rustic Texas bar with daily live music. We love the Driskill’s long standing tradition of Afternoon Tea featuring French pastries and petit fours, with delicate finger sandwiches, as you leisurely sip premium loose-leaf teas and sparkling wine. Once you have explored this landmark hotel, it’s time to get canoeing on the Lower Colorado. Let WIT get you outfitted with all the gear you’ll need and a guide to lead you on a magical trip along the river followed by a gourmet picnic lunch.

The resort’s lawn is designed for fun with giant Jenga, beanbag toss and ping-pong games, or just relaxing in a hammock. Steps away from the hotel is the entrance to the Rowing Dock. Whether it’s paddle boarding, canoeing, kayaking or fishing, there’s something for everyone to enjoy on the water. If angling is your thing, Lady Bird Lake contains an excellent population of largemouth bass just waiting for you. After your day on the lake, head back to the Four Seasons for a visit to the spa or try their on-resort dining, where you can partake in a private, al fresco meal at one of the many spots on the resort’s lush grounds.

Commodore Perry Estate

estate with trees

Located on 10 acres in the heart of Austin, Commodore Perry Estate, an Auberge Resort is considered one of Austin's architectural jewels. Currently the estate is undergoing a full restoration paying homage to its contemporary glamour meets whimsy. The mansion is a historic landmark in which Commodore Perry used to throw swanky soirees for his friends and family. The 54 rooms and suites have a country estate aesthetic fused with relaxed elegance and Texas hospitality. Personalized bar carts will be customized to your liking, and might include spicy jalapeno margaritas, old fashioned martinis or gin and tonics. Every guest will be assigned an Estate Host that will cater to any and all of your needs. The entire area is ideal for a bike tour to explore Austin icons from the river to downtown. Visit the famous Treaty Oak and learn of its interesting history, then ride to the UT Campus to see the tower that Charles Whitman made famous. The tour wouldn’t be complete without seeing the State Capitol grounds.  But really, you don’t even have to leave, with on-property power yoga in the garden or HIIT Boot camp, available to you. Looking to take it down a notch? Try a mindfulness meditation session surrounded by candles.
