With all the hospitality competition in Los Angeles, it's hard for a hotel to stand out from the noise. However, what 1 Hotel has done, which differentiates them from the pack, is create a mission behind their brand of giving back to the environment. As they say, "The future of the world and the future of hospitality are one in the same."
Earthy tones, raw materials, and fresh greens are among the visuals we saw as we walked through 1 Hotel. What we found out was most of the hotel is made with reclaimed materials, even down to the wooden room keys! Our room was a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown LA. The reclaimed wood walls and sand toned bedding immediately induced a sense of calm as we walked in, and the incorporation of live plants throughout the living quarters breathes fresh plant oxygen into the space.
After getting settled, we made our way to the rooftop pool, which is exclusive for hotel guests. Similar to the interior of 1 Hotel, the pool is lined with hundreds of different types of plant life. While taking in some California sunshine, Chris and I ordered a few drinks to our lounge area: the 1 in a Melon cocktail for Chris and the Illegal Spice for me. After taking a dip and taking in the panoramic views of The Hills, we ordered a baby kale salad with grilled salmon and the Impossible burger for lunch. We could have easily spent our entire afternoon poolside!
Something I knew I had to check out while staying at 1 Hotel was FaceGym. This isn't your typical facial. In fact, they describe FaceGym as just that: a workout for your face! They use high energy kneading movements on your face to help tone and tighten the 40 facial muscles that often go ignored. After having a facelift that left her house bound, the founder of FaceGym created this service as a way to offer a non-invasive solution to anti-aging. They even customize a serum specifically for your skin needs, calling it your "Training Serum" on par with the gym theme. This serum is blended with a variety of nutrient-packed ingredients, but every single serum includes their magic potion which they call the "Muscle Blend." If you're looking to step outside your usual skincare routine and try something fun, I recommend checking out FaceGym!
After a quick workout at the hotel gym, we freshened up and headed to dinner at Alice. The bubblegum pink and brass light fixtures hanging above the cozy, sky blue lounges offered a fun, vibrant feel for our date night. I started out the evening with the kale salad, while Chris dined on the heirloom beet salad. Alice prides themselves on using local, seasonal ingredients in every dish, which are inspired by French American cuisine. Since we heard the fish was the way to go, I selected the ancient grain risotto with grilled salmon and Chris had the grilled tuna with broccolini. One of the great things about Alice is the full marketplace at the entrance of the restaurant, offering charcuterie board and wine options, in addition to a fresh oyster raw bar where you can grab items to-go for that dinner party you’re headed to!
We night-capped at Harriet's Rooftop, a sort of flashback to your grandmother's house in the 70's, but an elevated, chic version (trust us--it works!). The floor-to-ceiling windows offer a beautiful view of the city lit up at night, and the DJ brings an amazing energy into this indoor/outdoor space. The cocktails we ordered were absolutely picturesque, garnished with beautiful, fresh flowers, playing off the garden-like setting of the restaurant. Between the burgundy awnings with tassel trim, to the mood-setting string lighting, the vibe of this stop was definitely one of our favorites!
The next morning we enjoyed breakfast at 1 Kitchen, where I selected the eggs on avocado toast while Chris enjoyed the grain bowl. Our sweet tooth got the best of us, so we decided to split their gluten free ricotta pancake--a decision I don't regret! With a passion and mission of sustainability and locations in other major cities including Brooklyn, Central Park, and Miami, the possibilities for growth for 1 Hotel are endless.
